Lina | Portraits

My aunt loves having her photos taken- not going to lie. It's cool having someone to model whenever I want. This was just a fun, random kind of practice shoot for me really. Towards the end, I tried some close- ups (headshots). I need more practice on them; a lot of people have been asking for headshots. I also got some new actions- I love the vintage-y feel to some photos. :) I've been loving the overcast mornings- great time to take photos... good light and it's not hot!

Andrew | Senior Portraits

Sunday, August 30, 2009

Andrew was a Sophomore when I was a Senior in high school. We were both in marching band as well as Jazz band. Unfortunately, I didn't really get to know him as well in high school but today we got to catch up a bit. I met up at his house, took a few shots there, while his parents tried to look on (lol) and then we left for the Falls and downtown. His mom had told me that he was the one that decided to get his portraits done by me- I felt so honored! Haha, he told me that he didn't think I'd remember him. (It's pretty hard for me to forget a face) Anyways, it was a really great shoot, even though the sun was so bright! I had fun making Andrew switch between serious and smiling faces. Have a great Senior year Andrew!

Trinh + Hieu | Day After Pt. 2

| |

I took some portraits of this couple a few weeks ago. I headed down to Portland this weekend where they're from and took some more. They're fun to work with. :) Here are some teaser images- wish I could post some more but we're attempting to keep her gown a secret until their September wedding.

Zelenak Siblings | Portraits

Friday, August 28, 2009

I've known Megan ever since like Kindergarten or something... anyway, she asked me I'd take some portraits of her and her siblings for their mom's upcoming 50th birthday. I also know her twin brothers, Kevin and Ryan, just from doing Cross Country (I know, crazy right?) freshman year of high school. The two of them graduated in 2006, two years before Megan and I. Her sister, Breanne, is an upcoming sophomore in high school. Anywayss, we just walked around and took some shots. Kevin wanted to do an imitation of the Beatles' Abbey Road photo. Haha, it looked pretty cool. Here are some previews:

My favorite shot!!

New Website and Other Ramblings

Thursday, August 27, 2009

I recently updated my website a few days ago- I went to the library and got it done in two hours. I had already started it but kept putting it off because I've been concentrating most of my time on actually shooting and blogging the shoots. I used Showit, which I've been wanting to use for forever. The only problem is it's about $40 bucks a month and I don't make that much of an income to use my money on that (plus my photography has been spreading via word of mouth anyways) Well, I was on my Twitter homepage awhile ago and David Jay announced that it was free for up to 5 pages and 30 MB. Hey, that works for me!! I was soo excited- it looks so much professional than the page I had before. I already bought my address so I just linked what I already had to the Showit site. It looks legit and works. I'm just using my resources. ;) There are some screen grabs at the end...

Today (well yesterday I should say since it's past midnight), I booked four more senior sessions. Carmen, mother of one of the Seniors called me this morning, and said that she had seen Kyle's portraits in front of Stadium and totally loved them. She told me that I was actually the first photographer she was calling and asked about my pricing. After we talked for a bit, she decided to go ahead and book through me (I was excited, nonetheless).

After the phone call, we played some email tag and she sent me a really sweet message, which I will end this post with:

"I have been looking at your website and your photos are just beautiful Dorothy! How long have you been doing this? You look at young as my daughter! If Danielle's photos turn out (and I'm sure they will)...I have many other occasions for a photographer. Nothing big but just family stuff. I would love to use you in the future too!"

Completely flattering.

Erika, Jude, Marisa and Sarah | Portraits

Tuesday, August 25, 2009

I posted a blog about Jude and her senior portraits yesterday. I met up with her again today with her three close friends from school: Marisa, Erika and Sarah. These girls are all upcoming Seniors at Olympia High School. It was so cool to see how close the four of them were- they're all extremely tight and that is rare to find, especially with four friends.

We shot downtown and if you know Olympia at all, there are definitely characters down there- today, especially. Good thing I was with four other people... The girls were game for everything that I suggested- I loved it! The whole shoot definitely had a 'The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants' feel to it- it was rad.

Enjoy!

Carly | Senior Portraits

Monday, August 24, 2009

When I think of Carly, I think of a happy go-lucky, friendly, hilarious and passionate lover of Chirst. I look up to her in so many ways- she probably doesn't even know. I met her when I was a Junior in high school. We got to enjoy the experience of marching band together... she made it that much more fun- that's for sure.

Today we met up and as we started the session, I told her that she was really good at posing (because she was! she didn't need any direction at all) and she admitted to met that she actually looked up YouTube videos on how to pose! Wow, that made my day AND my job a little bit easier. Hah, it was awesome.

It's unbelievable that she is a Senior, but she's still the same girl I remember first meeting. I know she'll do great things as she finishes up high school and moves on to bigger and better things!

She came prepared! Props and everything!
I absolutely adore these four images...

Jude | Senior Portraits

| |

Yesterday was a hectic day for me. After church I headed downtown for a family session; I came home, blogged about them (I amaze myself sometimes), and then rushed to Priest Point for a senior session with Jude. Jude saw my work with the Krazy 8 Portraits and emailed me afterwards. I didn't get a chance to blog about them today, sorry for the delay. She will be a Senior this Fall at Olympia High School. I asked her what she wanted to do after graduating and she said she wanted to be an Animal Cruelty Officer. That's pretty neat, if you ask me. She's been wanting to do that since the 4th grade and her mind hasn't changed since then. That must be a sign. ;) Also, Jude is a pretty sweet name if you ask me. She has a gorgeous smile and her eyes are awesome. I especially love the last image posted here. It was the last one I took on the session too. I need to work on close- ups, but I really dig it.

Holbrook Family | Portraits

Sunday, August 23, 2009

On this beautiful, perfect Sunday afternoon I photographed Coleen and Alan's family. Coleen is Shalom's older sister. She has two of the cutest boys ever, Tristan and Thatcher. AND... she is expecting a girl in January. I am so excited for their family! Shalom kept telling me over the past few weeks how excited Coleen was for this family session and that made me that much more excited. I love when people are excited about photos! The boys were a little harder than we had all anticipated, but you can never predict little kids' moods. It was all good though because it was fun running around chasing them.

Aunt Shalom came along too to help us out so it turned out to be really fun. She brought some snacks for them so that helped a bit. ;) The weather wasn't too hot which was great. I hope that you absolutely love these photos Coleen! Thanks for the opportunity- I really appreciate it!

Dad and Thatcher (cool name huh?)
Tristan loves sharks- he kept talking about them and on the right, is his infamous 'shark face'.

Thatcher was definitely entertaining himself over this little ledge. :)

Coleen bought the boys the cutest shoes... I love Chucks!
Check out Thatcher's eyes!
I LOVE THIS :)

Shalom + Josh | Portraits

Saturday, August 22, 2009

Shalom and I have been planning this shoot for a couple weeks now... we had a whole outfit scheme and everything, but in the end, we couldn't find what we wanted so just went with whatever we found. The historic part of Tacoma is soo gorgeous and I've been wanting to shoot there for forever. I got to shoot Kyle's senior pictures there yesterday and today, Shalom, Josh and I drove up again for their couples' shoot. Shalom and I have been friends since 7th grade and her and Josh will have been together for 2 years this coming November! Time flies fast eh? I loved photographing these two and the three of us spent a beautiful afternoon enjoying the weather and scenery Washington had to offer :)

There were so many images from this shoot that I loved, to see a few more, become a fan on my Facebook page!
