Post- Processing

Monday, March 1, 2010 | |

I thought I would blog an image and show a little bit of what I normally do as far as my editing. I took the following photo at about 5:45 in the evening last December... so it was getting dark fast. The settings on this image were at ISO 200, F/1.8 and a shutter speed of 1/80. As you can see the image was a little bit too cold temperature-wise. You can see how blue and dark the sky was in the reflection of her eyes.

I warmed up the image, did some minor retouching on her skin, and whitened her teeth a little bit. I realized then that the image didn't look right after warming it up because there was still the blue sky in her eyes. To fix that, I desaturated that color and lightened it up with an adjustment layer in Hue/Saturation. I also added a Vignette and finally, I sharpened the photo.

This is probably the most I do to an image. Typically all I do is change the color temp., sharpen up the image and call it done. Hopefully that brought you some insight into my post- processing! :)

Here is the Straight Out of the Camera shot and the final Edit:

Reflection

Wednesday, June 24, 2009 | |

I finished retouching the family photos I took from Ocean Shores a couple days ago and just got them to my client. She wrote me a really sweet email and also blogged about me on her site. I am really relieved and so excited that the family loved how the photos turned out. It's nice.

In other words, today I plan to spend many more hours editing. I made the mistake of accidentally deleting some of the retouching I had already done the other day and it completely stressed me out. After returning from a run (hoping I could get it off my mind), I returned to my little Mac and started these batch of photos again. I'm trying different things and am enjoying how they are turning out.

Thank you little Mac, you have been so faithful and I'm sorry I overwork you all the time. (I had a horrible dream the other day that I dropped and broke my laptop- it was depressing).
